A Successful Celebration!

March 29, 2017

In July 2015, the City of Central celebrated its 10th anniversary of official incorporation with a birthday party for the city.  Hoping to continue the annual tradition, Mayor Jr. Shelton hosted Central’s 11th Birthday Bash at Central Football Stadium on July 16, 2016.  Complete with live bands, amazing food, BREC family activities and a massive fireworks display, Central’s Birthday Bash was a night of celebration, pride, family and community.

Kenny Fife and the Bac Trac Band, the Swamp Pop band, kicked off the night at 6 pm, welcoming those first to arrive.  Armed with lawn chairs and tents and blankets, families and friends spread across the field.  Throughout the evening, children ran between the obstacles courses to the inflatables to dancing at the front of the crowd beneath the stage.

Though many of the attendees brought their own snacks, drinks and barbecue, several local vendors appeared at the event.  Our local bakeries, Another Piece of Cake and Dawn’s Sweet Tooth, provided free sweet treats throughout the night.  The Southern Pride BBQ food truck vendor made its first of many future appearances in Central and succeeded in totally selling out by night’s end.  Southern Pride BBQ also featured its original item, the Pulled Pork Parfait.  The CHS Kittens dance team sold glow sticks and worked with Coke to fundraise for their trip to Disney World.  In addition to the beautiful weather, Kona Ice sold snow cones to keep everyone cool.

At half past seven, The Molly Ringwalds took to the stage to entertain for the remainder of the night.  The popular 80’s cover band held true to its promise of an excellent show and kept the crowd more than entertained until the fireworks display at 9:30.

With a crowd of just over 1000, the City of Central celebrated its second annual birthday celebration with resounding success and excitement.  Those notable in attendance were: the Central City Council, Central City officials and Louisiana Representatives Garret Graves, Scott Wilson and Barry Ivey.  If you did not attend the birthday bash this year, we hope to see you in 2017!
