CITY OF CENTRAL URGES HOMEOWNERS TO PROTECT THEMSELVES AGAINST FRAUDULENT CONTRACTORS AS THEY REBUILD FOLLOWING THE FLOODING
March 29, 2017
The City of Central would like to stress the importance of using a properly registered or licensed contractor in your home for repairs. Unfortunately, not everyone you will come across will be properly registered/licensed, which can pose a big risk to the homeowner. Most repairs after a flooding incident do not require a permit. However, a hired contractor can determine this.
If the value of the work performed is between $7,500 and $75,000, including labor and materials, it requires the use of a residential contractor that is registered by the State Licensing Board for Contractors. If the value of the work performed exceeds $75,000, including labor and materials, it requires the use of a residential contractor that is licensed by the State Licensing Board for Contractors. You can check to ensure these requirements are met by going to http://www.lslbc.louisiana.gov/contractor-search/.
Contractors should also be licensed by the City of Central. A list of contractors that are eligible to perform plumbing, electrical, and mechanical work in our City can be found at http://www.centralgov.com/permits/contractors-business-license.html#.V7sUnpMrJBz
